Even better grip, improved casing, and a new version of the Black Chili compound. Rolling resistance is reduced by as much as 12% compared to its older sister, the GP 4000, and puncture resistance is increased by 20%.

Braiding: 3/330 TPI

Technologies:

Black Chili: A unique rubber compound, manufactured exclusively in Germany, that has revolutionized bicycle tires! Used in high-end tires, the Black Chili compound balances grip, rolling resistance, and durability. Numerous test victories demonstrate its measurable benefits. The latest polymer compounds, microscopic carbon black particles, and optimized fillers guarantee exceptional performance—from downhill to road tires! The Black Chili compound reduces rolling resistance by 26% and provides 30% better grip than silicate compounds, and in the GP 5000, these figures are even more impressive. Tires with Black Chili also offer higher mileage and, rarely seen in tires with advanced compounds, their performance remains consistent from the first to the last kilometer.

VectranBreaker: Vectran is a synthetic fiber manufactured using new technologies based on a natural pattern. Similar to spiderweb, Vectran is a liquid crystal polymer (LCP). It is woven from molten Vectra liquid polymer and then further processed into a multifilament thread. Like spiderweb, it has an extremely high breaking strength relative to its weight. This strength has also been demonstrated in many practical applications of Vectran: astronaut ropes, seabed cables, and cut-resistant clothing.

Vectran can be found wherever extreme durability is required. Vectran fibers have a tensile strength five times greater than steel, are fatigue-resistant, and therefore extremely resistant to loads. These properties make this material suitable for puncture protection in the highest-quality tires. Vectran Breaker protection is lighter, more flexible, and provides more effective cut protection than comparable nylon protection systems. Vectran does not compromise rolling resistance.

A revolutionary approach to cycling. Active Comfort technology, embedded in the tire's construction, absorbs vibrations and smooths your ride.

*TPI: The carcass is the main casing of all tires. The carcass construction, material, and thread density depend on the tire's requirements. Continental generally uses high-quality carcasses made of woven and then rubberized nylon threads. Nylon bonds well with rubber and exhibits good resistance in all weather conditions. The density of the nylon threads determines the specific properties of the tire. Thread density is measured in TPI (threads per inch), which refers to the number of threads per inch. Fabrics with 22 tpi, 60 tpi, and 110 tpi are common. The very fine weave of the fabric makes the tire flexible and protects the carcass from punctures. A loose fabric weave provides greater cut resistance and greater durability. The choice of weave depends on the tire's intended use. A three-ply primary carcass is standard. Additional Breaker protection can be placed under the tread to further reinforce the tire and increase puncture protection. The casing is measured in layers, with the total tpi being 3/180, meaning three layers of 60 tpi fabric.
