eCargo1 – a durable chain that meets the highest standards. With a tensile strength of 1350 Nm, the eCargo1 meets 150% of the required standard. This allows the chain to withstand the enormous forces acting on a cargo bike's drivetrain, resulting from high engine torque and heavy loads. Combined with the engineered KMC sprockets and chainrings, it's the ideal solution for intensive, everyday use – even on cargo bikes without a motor.

KMC eCargo1 Chain

The eCargo1 chain owes its exceptional strength to its 15% wider and 20% thicker plates, which are equipped with a special anti-slip design. Combined with exceptionally strong bolts, the eCargo1 achieves a minimum tensile strength of 1350 Nm, which is 50% higher than the required standard.

In this design, KMC returned to the advanced roller chain design. The chain sleeve is surrounded by an additional roller, located between the inner plates. This double-layer design protects the moving parts from contamination and ensures lateral stability. Roller chains are characterized by very low friction and are wear-resistant.

KMC's non-toxic and environmentally friendly EcoProTeQ technology, or EPT, protects the eCargo1 against corrosion for twice as long (the first signs of rust appear after 650 hours in a salt spray test) as conventional corrosion inhibitors. Each chain link is individually EPT-treated, providing complete protection that minimizes exposure to water, salt, and moisture. Another advantage of EPT is its exceptionally smooth surface, which gives the chains excellent running properties. Dirt buildup is minimized over the long term, significantly reducing the burden of chain maintenance.

The eCargo1 is part of the KMC 10,000 km+ program. Combined with a KMC wide sprocket and chainring, KMC guarantees a mileage of at least 10,000 kilometers.

eCargo1 is compatible with all hub derailleurs or direct drives with 1/2" x 1/8" (3mm) chainrings and sprockets.
