Every year, Shimano introduces changes to its components collection, rejuvenating and innovating new groupsets. A completely redesigned Alivio groupset, codenamed M4000 for MTBs and T4000 for trekking bikes, is planned for 2015. Following these changes, the Alivio has strengthened its position against the Acera and Altus and shifted towards a more competitive cross-country focus.
