Shimano has maintained a consistent policy for many years – the latest technologies always appear in the top-of-the-line XTR group, which is highly valued. After a while, they trickle down to the lower groups, becoming more budget-friendly for the average MTB rider, and therefore simply more accessible. We don't really mind, as it gives us a better idea of what to expect in the near future. When the first 1x12 drivetrain with a 10-51T gear range bearing the XTR logo was introduced in 2018, many people eagerly awaited the technologies used in the lower groups – Deore XT and SLX. And indeed, Shimano soon introduced these groups.

The Shimano SLX BR-M7100 brake is a set consisting of a lever and a two-piston caliper. It is designed for a wide range of mountain bikes. The brake uses resin pads without a heat sink. Their advantage is excellent modulation and sufficient stopping power for most applications. Another advantage of the non-metallic pads is the blissful silence that accompanies braking. The Shimano SLX BR-M7100 is activated via the lever. Its main advantage is Servo Wave technology, which guarantees high braking power and a short free travel of the lever. The manufacturer has implemented a new mounting system. This allows the caliper to contact the handlebar in two places, resulting in greater rigidity. The brake lever also features lever position adjustment via a convenient knob.
